It will serve as a key communication tool for the Bioenergy Association of Finland.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>A Diverse Range of Bio-CCUS and Biochar Projects<\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Finland has several bio-CCUS and biochar projects across the country, with many in the planning phase and others already operational. Biochar projects, in particular, have grown rapidly, with several facilities already operational and new ones under development.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the planned CCUS projects, captured CO\u2082 will be in most cases used locally, e.g. in the production of synthetic fuels. Some initiatives involve processing CO\u2082 captured abroad in Finland, while others plan to transport CO\u2082 for permanent geological storage outside Finland. Finland has significant potential, especially in capturing biogenic CO\u2082 from the forest and energy industries, with large point sources producing about 30 million tons annually.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A Growing Biochar Industry<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The biochar industry is also set for rapid growth, with around ten new facilities and expansions planned. Production capacity could increase over tenfold by 2030. Currently, more than 10,000 tons of biochar are produced annually in Finland, with promising applications in water purification, agriculture, and construction. On December 10, the Bioenergy Association of Finland published <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bioenergia.fi\/2024\/12\/10\/uudet-laatusuositukset-auttavat-valitsemaan-sopivan-biohiilen\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">quality recommendations for soil use of biochar<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, ensuring it meets the required standards.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Collaborative Effort<\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The map was created through a collaboration between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bioenergialehti.fi\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bioenergia Magazine (Bioenergialehti)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and the Bioenergy Association of Finland, with support from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampereenenergia.fi\/en\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tampereen Energia<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vantaanenergia.fi\/en\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Vantaan Energia<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fi.endress.com\/en?store_locale=en\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Endress+Hauser<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
